Exciting News!

Hello everyone,

I have some super exciting news!

A week or two ago, in the early afternoon, I was in my bedroom watching YouTube, and scrolling through posts on Instagram. I had horseback riding scheduled for later in the afternoon, so I didn't want to get started on filming my stop motion, as I would only be able to work for an hour or two, which would be pretty impractical for getting anything done. So, instead I decided to relax for the short amount of time that I had. On Instagram, I finished scrolling through all the posts from people I was following, so I checked the suggested tab, while still half watching YouTube. I came across a post about a dollhouse. I stopped and read the caption. To my surprise, the post was talking about a video that the user had posted on YouTube. Since I was on the site, I decided to look up the video. I quickly found it, and began watching.

Just then, my mom walked in. She asked me what I was watching, and I told her it was someone building a dollhouse. She looked at my computer screen, and instantly recognized the shelves the woman was using. She explained to me that they were from IKEA, and they were called Ivar. After a quick conversation about why my mom knew the exact name of some random shelf from IKEA, my mom glanced over at the shelves in my room that were being used as a dollhouse. Then, she asked me if I wanted the Ivar shelves for a dollhouse instead. I told her that I would, and explained the small inconvenience that my current dollhouse has when it comes to filming stop motions. But, I stated that there probably wouldn't be enough room for the shelves, as my dollhouse is wedged between the end of my bed, and the wall, so expanding the depth of the house wouldn't be logical. We discussed a couple ways we could make it work. Then, my mom said that if I made a plan of all the shelf pieces I'd need, and how much it would all cost, we could go and buy it! I immediately expressed my approval of the idea, and offered to pay for all of the pieces. I explained that the only effort my mom would have to put in was to help me build the shelves. My mom declared that she would generously pay for the shelves, because she would take the shelves from my current dollhouse, and put them in our dining room. I had suggested the idea of putting my current dollhouse in the dining room a while back, when my mom expressed interest in that particular style of shelving. I had always wanted a new dollhouse, and that plan would satisfy both my mom's and my wishes: she would get shelves in the dining room, and I'd get a new dollhouse. However, back then my mom hadn't agreed to the idea, so I was super happy when she suggested it! After that, my mom left the room, and I started to freak out.

I mean, how can you keep yourself together when you just found out that your getting a new dollhouse?

So, that's my exciting news. I'm getting a new dollhouse!

Well... I got a new dollhouse. I started writing this post the day after all of this happened, but it took me a while to finish it.

Today, we went to IKEA, because my brother had a dentist thing, which was in the area. We picked up all the pieces that we'll need to build the dollhouse! They're currently in our garage, and we won't be able to assemble the dollhouse until probably next week, so I'll make sure to keep you guys updated!

As I mentioned before, I have wanted a new dollhouse for a while now. You might be wondering, why? What's wrong with your current dollhouse?

There isn't really anything "wrong" with it, but it is a bit small, and sometimes quite challenging to film stop motions in.

Let me show you.

Here is an empty room in my current dollhouse, and Sara standing inside it.

The first inconvenience with my current dollhouse is that in order to have 8 rooms total, I can't make the rooms very tall. If I made the rooms taller, I would only be able to have four rooms in my dollhouse. So, I have to make them really small. In fact, the are so small that the dolls' heads touch the ceiling. My dolls can't wear some of the shoes I own in the dollhouse, as well as they can't wear hats or hairstyles on top of their heads. It can become very frustrating, especially when filming stop motions. I actually used to have to move the shelves around whenever I wanted to film, in order to make the ceiling higher.

The second "problem" is the depth. My dollhouse is only 10 inches deep. When you say it, it doesn't sound so bad. However, when you try to put furniture in it, you realize how small that actually is.

This is the room with some furniture in it. Once you put everything in the house, there is barely any room left for the dolls to stand, much less walk.

For filming stop motions, I had a system where I'd stack books up next to the shelving unit, and lay one of the extra shelves on top of them, to increase the depth of the dollhouse. However, it became pretty annoying having to do that every time I wanted to film.

I don't want to sound bratty or spoiled, so just keep in mind that I did like this dollhouse very much, and I was always extremely grateful to have it, but as any doll obsessed girl would, I always dreamed of having one that was bigger. Now my dream is coming true, and I'm ecstatic.

Stay tuned, because I'll be posting about the dollhouse a bit more!

See you soon! ❀
